College Coaching Services

Every student is different…

Each student has his or her own unique aspirations, challenges, strengths, learning style, college preference and skill set that they are bringing to the college application. Additionally, extracurricular activities and summer travel plans may dictate the timing of college preparation activities.

Every college is different…

Each college has its own “recipe for admission” including factors like average GPA’s, standardized test scores, class rank, application essays, teacher recommendation, volunteer service, work experience, etc. It’s impossible to make a blanket statement that one college is better than another since each college provides it’s own benefit to the students it serves.

Every family’s budget is different…

Each family has ideas about what they can afford (or are willing to spend) for a college undergraduate degree. Therefore, it is important to identify colleges that will meet both the student’s goals AND the family’s budget. This often requires additional college research and an expansion of the “comfort zone” for students and parents alike.

That’s why college Coaching is different for each student…

There is no way that I can predict what is right for any student or family without engaging in a meaningful conversation. That’s why your first consultation is free! In this meeting (whether in person or by phone) I’ll try to learn as much as I can about where a student is, where they want to be, and how I may best be able to help them get there.

Overview of Coaching Services

Below are brief descriptions of the most commonly used services. They can be purchased ala-carte or bundled into Coaching Packages at a reduced rate. (Packages range from $450 - $1,350)

Personal Coaching Session

Students who desire one-on-one guidance and/or assistance are encouraged to take advantage of Personal Coaching Sessions. Each 60-minute session is geared to address student specific needs. Some of the most common activities conducted in sessions include (but are not limited to) college research, essay reviews, application reviews, mock interviews and scholarship application assistance.

Monthly College Countdown

This monthly newsletter is designed to help students stay ahead of the curve and informed of any significant changes in the application process. Enrollment also provides you with access to my expertise when basic issues or questions arise, at no additional charge. If your request requires extensive research or assistance, you’ll be directed to utilize a personal coaching session.

Make Your Essay Make A Difference

This small, interactive essay workshop is more like an Art class than English class. The 2.5-hour class helps students create memorable essays. Through extensive brainstorming, students will identify several personal experiences or character traits that can be converted into appropriate essays. By the end of class, one idea will be turned into a story board. (Multiple classes are offered June through September.)

Common App Kick Start Class (CAKS)

Not sure where to start with college applications? Then this 60-minute class will help. Students will create an account in Common App and begin data entry. We review each page of the application and many fields are completed. Students also learn how to add colleges, review supplemental requirements and request letters of recommendation. (Classes fall on the same dates as Essay Workshops.)
